6 Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Band

Whether you go timeless, trendy, or somewhere in between, you need to be absolutely positive that your wedding band will last as long as you both shall live. Here are 6 tips for choosing your wedding band.

6 Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Band

  1. Start Your Search Early: Give yourselves at least two months to look around, research, and price different rings. If you’re interested in a custom piece you will need to allow yourself more time – extras like engraving can take up to one month.
  2. Have a Budget: You should assume that you’re going to spend about 3 percent of your total wedding budget on rings. The average price for a gold band is around $150. For a platinum band, then this number rises to $600 or $700. Diamonds will make the price go up even more.
  3. Consider Form and Function: Your ring should work well with your lifestyle: If you enjoy sports or music, you should opt for a slimmer ring with rounded edges, rather than a wide, bulky band. If you work with your hands, you will want a simple, solid metal ring –  stones can come loose and dirt will get caught in the carvings.
  4. Think Style: You want a ring that’s going to still look good to you 20 years from now. Stick with a basic shape and a clean finish, and stay away from trendy unusual stones that will be over next week. Mix metals if you like to wear both gold and silver on a day-to-day basis.
  5. Be Different: Pick wedding bands that reflect each of your styles – just because you and your fiancé having matching personalities doesn’t mean your rings have to match too. Some aspect should match, though, like metal or inscriptions.
  6. Size It Right: Never finalize your ring size in the morning, after exercise, or when you’re extremely hot or cold. You should have the final fitting when you are calm and your body temperature is normal.
