When we mention Birthstone Engagement Rings we aren’t referring to the month of April which is the Diamond Birthstone. There are 12 main birthstones. January is Garnet, February is Amethyst which is a purple hue, March is Aquamarine, April is Diamond, May is Emerald, June is Pearl, July is Ruby, August is Peridot, September is Sapphire, October is Tourmaline, November is Topaz, and December is Zircon. The great thing about gemstones is that some of them have many colors to choose from. For example Tourmaline can be found in any color of the rainbow. The main stones that are used in engagement rings are sapphire, emerald, rubies and diamonds. If you are going to do a birthstone make sure you do your research on the gemstone itself. Some stones cannot handle the amount of pressure from the metal setting. Precious Gemstones differ from Semi Precious Gemstones. How you can tell the different is that Emeralds, Rubies, Diamonds and Sapphires are the ONLY Precious Gemstones, everything else is considered semi precious. Semi Precious stones have a softer genetic makeup which means being placed in tension set is virtually impossible. Another thing you need to know about is the proper care for birthstone engagement rings. This category is a helpful reminder of how to not only care for your ring, but decide if you want to have a birthstone engagement ring!
