This stone was mined at one of the most famous locations in South Africa, Cullinan.

If you haven’t heard of Cullinan you may have been hiding under a large rock, no pun intended. Cullinan is responsible for making some of the British Crown Jewels. Back in 1905, the biggest diamond ever discovered, the Cullinan diamond was unearthed and cut into two separate pieces for the British Crowned Jewels.

This new diamond recently discovered is the largest diamond discovered in almost a century! “The stone is… of exceptional size and clarity, and is a magnificent example of the large, high quality diamonds for which the mine is known,” Petra Diamonds said in a statement.

Petra Diamonds is having quite the lucky streak. The last diamond was a 507.3ct white diamond that sold for $35.3 million in 2010. This diamond is estimated to sell for between $10 – $20 million.

There is no official answer on what the fate for this diamond will be, but because of its large size we can imagine it will be cut into smaller pieces. We will keep you updated!
