Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: For Engagements!

How to Get a Bargain on an Engagement Ring

Tis’ the Season! Its that time of year again, no not just the holidays, it is officially engagement season! This is the time that couples have a tighter bond than ever before. Boyfriends start getting down on one knee and popping the question, “will you marry me?” Instead of going to Tiffany’s and spending a fortune take a step back and look at other places for inspiration this holiday season!

There are certain rules that must be followed when deciding on what engagement ring is for you. The first rule is distinguish a price. What are you comfortable spending? Do not take a loan out to buy your significant other a ring that is out of your price range! Most jewelry stores will work out a payment plan with you if money is really tight. If you have an average budget and want to get more for your buck go to an estate jeweler. Depending on where you go they can custom make you a setting and give you a lightly used diamond, or just find you all the ingredients and whip you up a perfect ring for a discount!

Another thing to remember is be knowledgable when it comes to your Four C’s. You’ve probably heard us talk about this terminology before. The Four C’s are Carat Weight, Color, Cut and Clarity. If you understand these four words you will know all there is to know about a diamond. The reason it is good to know about a diamond is you will be able to beat the system and bargain down your diamond. If your jeweler supplies you with a diamond certificate make sure it is GIA. Not that EGL or IGI is bad it is just very inconsistent. These labs also fabricate the true identity of the diamond. For example if the color of a diamond is H they might call it a F.

It is the best time of year to get engaged and we want to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible! The best time to buy jewelry is the Christmas season, there are bargains everywhere. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and good luck shopping for that perfect sparkler!
