How I Met Your Mother Disappointing Ending

Our Thoughts on How I Met Your Mother Finale

If you haven’t seen the series finale of How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) don’t even skim through this! There will be dozens of spoilers, but honestly I don’t think its even worth the disappointment of watching.

Over the years we have become initiated into ‘the gang’ and watched for years as Ted held out for the perfect woman. One of the main lessons we all thought we were consuming from this series was that love was worth the wait. All 9 seasons captured us until finally, we found out who the mother was! Cristin Milioti (who we didn’t find out was named Tracy until the very end). The pair shared so many misconnected first moments together including the Halloween party (she was the pumpkin) the roommate of Ted’s ex girlfriend’s and of course, who could forget that infamous yellow umbrella initialed TM.

It was almost too good to be true that these two would end up happy and as everyone predicted, Tracy became sick. This wasn’t the only disappointment the series brought. After a whole ninth season dedicated to Barney and Robin’s wedding, the two decided a divorce was the best option after a brief three years of marriage. The once strong ‘gang’ had all became estranged. Robin became a big-time news anchor who hardly had time for her friends. Marshal and Lilly were welcoming baby number three and Marshal had become a judge.

But this isn’t what made us so upset! What really irks us is after Ted finishes the story of how he met his children’s mother, the kids then tell him they know why he went on about this descriptive tale. “You made us sit down and listen to the story about how you met mom? But mom is hardly in the story. No, this is a story about how you’re totally in love with Aunt Robin, and you’re thinking about asking her out and you want to know if we’re OK with it.” said Ted’s daughter, played by Lyndsy Fonseca. Back in 2006 the final scene was filmed before the kids became too old so this had been planned from the very beginning!

For a series that made us laugh, cry and become bonded with the characters its sad to see after everything it ended with such a frustrating twist. After talking to his children he then called Robin, hung up and the final scene is him standing outside her window holding the blue french horn from their very first date. The end.
