Next Step: The Perfect Engagement Ring

Okay guys, if you’re reading this, it seems as though you may be a little bit lost about choosing that right ring for your girl. Chances are you haven’t paid a whole lot of attention to any particular piece of jewelry, well, ever. So how are you supposed to decide what will be right for your woman? Here’s a little advice for you.

  1. Take some time to learn a little bit about diamond rings. Go online and read up on the four C’s: Cut, clarity, color and carat. Try to pick up on some of the more important sounding words so that you can make an informed decision when it’s time to buy the diamond.
  2. Remember, it’s all a matter of personal preference. Once again, do your research, but this time, pay attention to your future fiancée’s taste. From her makeup to her lifestyle, every tiny detail is important.  A woman who works in a nursery probably won’t appreciate having a huge rock on her finger for kids to tug on – something more low profile might suit her better. However, an interior designer is all about fashion and being showy, so something with modern flair would be perfect! Take a step into your girlfriend’s impossibly high-heels (figuratively, of course) to help choose the ring of her dreams. Face it – your laid-back, low-key gal probably wouldn’t want a whopping 18 carat ring like Beyonce received from Jay-Z.Set a budget – and stick to it! This may sound like common sense, but when you actually begin your search your imagination might lead you to a place of glitz and glamour that may be just a tad out of your price range. You’ll hear many people say that 2 or 3 month’s paychecks are the proper amount to spend on an engagement ring, but honestly, that’s a load of bologna. There are no rules. Spend what you are comfortable with.
  3. Get help. Ask her friends and family for their opinions. Your girlfriend has most likely ogled over many different rings throughout her life and the people who will know which ones will be those who are closest to her. Ask her friends to show you her “Wedding Ideas” board on Pinterest for some real insight to what she’s looking for!

Picking out an engagement ring doesn’t have to be a stressful, scary thing. If you go into it with direction, a budget and the right state of mind, you’ll do just fine!
