Pink Star Diamond Sells for $83 million

A diamond that weighed an astounding 132.5 Carats before it was cut and polished just sold at Sotheby’s Auction House in Geneva for $83 million! The stone measures 1.06” x 0.81” and weighs an approximate 59.60 cts.

The diamond is an oval shaped pink diamond that was sold by Isaac Wolf, a diamond cutter who renamed the diamond from Pink Star to Pink Dream. According to the auctioneer the diamond was mined by Da Beers in Africa (no exact country was given) back in 1999.

Pink Star took over 2 years to cut and polish, by the time it was complete it was 56.90 carats, more than double the size of the second biggest diamond in its class!

During the auction Sotheby played the theme music for the Pink Panther to add to the ambiance of the world changing event. The winning bid exceeded the $46.2 million Graff Pink diamond sold three years ago. “Ladies and gentlemen, 68 million is the world record bid for a diamond ever bid and it’s right here,” Sotheby’s David Bennett said as he brought down the hammer. The room was quiet waiting to see who would be the proud owner of this expensive gem.

The winners have remained private, but we can’t wait to see what they will do with this massive gemstone.
