The Do’s and Don’ts of Engagement Rings

It is so important to know all you can about engagement rings before and after the proposal. I mean, they are the single most important piece of bridal jewelry there is. So, keep in mind these do’s and don’ts of engagement rings.  Take a look at a few…

The Do’s and Don’ts of Engagement Rings

Do: Try your best to get a sense of your girlfriend’s taste in jewelry. You’re about to propose to her, so you’re going to want to present a ring to her that she’s actually going to like, right? If you’re clueless as to what jewelry she wears, talk to her friends and family to get a better idea.

Don’t: Exchange the ring. Ladies, your man just went through one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of his life when he asked you to marry him – don’t make him feel like dirt and trade it in for something you think is prettier. He put so much thought into this purchase and it represents his love and commitment to you. If you’re worried about his questionable taste, you may want to consider ring shopping with him instead.

Do: Invest as much as you can in a high quality ring. Your bride-to-be is going to be wearing this ring for the rest of her life, so it needs to be durable enough to fit her lifestyle and last quite a while. Platinum is a great option for an engagement ring. Not only is it strong, but it’s gorgeous as well.

Don’t: Overspend. Set a budget and stick to it. There is no set rule as to how much you need to spend on a ring, no matter what anyone has told you. Spend what you are comfortable with.

Do: Be practical. Choose a gemstone that is beautiful and will also be able to stand up to every day wear. The most beautiful and durable rings are probably diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. Emeralds or tanzanites will most likely chip, so be careful choosing those gemstones.
