The Dos and Don’ts of Holiday Wedding Proposals

It’s difficult getting engaged around the holidays. Between all of the family drama and stress of gift shopping, it’s easy to get caught up and forget some of the most common engagement rules. Here are the dos and don’ts of proposing around the holidays.

The Dos and Don’ts of Holiday Wedding Proposals

Do announce your engagement in front of the group – what better way to spread holiday cheer?

Don’t make a big announcement if anyone there is sensitive to the issue of engagement, like an older sister who’s been dying to get engaged herself or a recently divorced relative.

Don’t share your news online until you’ve told your family. It’s just polite to let them know first.

Do think about when you’d like to get married. Trust me, this question is going to come up.

Don’t feel bad if the gift you got your boyfriend doesn’t compare to the engagement ring he bought you. How were you supposed to know he was going to pop the question? Of course you got him socks!

Do get your guy a nice engagement gift once you’ve gotten enough money after all of the holiday spending.

Don’t expect an additional holiday gift from your man. Diamonds get to be pretty pricy!

Don’t take it personally if your friends don’t text you back after you tell them your news on Christmas Eve or Christmas. This is probably the one time of year your friends won’t be glued to their phones.

Do look your best for any potential proposal outing. There will be pictures!
