The next era to popularize the diamond trend was the Victorians who popularized engagement ring designs with diamonds that incorporated other gemstones, and precious metals. It was until the discovery of diamonds in Africa around 1870, that diamonds became affordable for the middle class. It wasn’t until the end of the great depression in the 1930’s that diamond engagement ring began to increase in demand across the United States. In 1947 De Beers who was the founder of the African diamond mind, created the campaign slogan “A Diamond is Forever“, in turn this increased sales tremendously.
