Petra Diamonds is making De Beers kick themselves for this one. In 2008 De Beers sold Petra Diamonds Cullinan Mine in South Africa. Since being sold Petra has recovered over 100ct’s worth of diamonds! 

2014 has just started and Petra announced they have recovered a 29.60ct Vivid Blue Diamond at Cullinan Mine in South Africa. The company referred to the diamond as “one of the most exceptional stones.” There are littles details on what the fate for this rough diamond is, but we have high hopes. Petra has made millions in the past for their extravagant big diamonds being sold. In May 2013 Petra sold a 25.50ct blue diamond for $16.9 million.

This Vivid blue diamond is being called one of the rarest diamond finds in history! It isn’t any surprise since Cullinan Mine is one of the most essential diamond mines ever. Back in 1905 a 3,106ct diamond was discovered there! This diamond was later cut into 9 smaller pieces, 1 being The Great Star of Africa, The Second Star of Africa and some diamonds were placed in the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.

Petra has made millions in the past for their extravagant big diamonds being sold. In May 2013 Petra sold a 25.50ct blue diamond for $16.9 million. The infamous Star of Josephine (which is a vivid blue cushion cut diamond that is Internally Flawless) was also discovered there and sold for a whopping $9.49 million.

This diamond is going to be a part of history. Its rarity is so immense. Finding a Fancy Vivid Blue diamond is rare in itself, but almost 30 ct.’s is a new world record! We will be sure to keep you updated on what happens with this magnificent gem!
