Depending on the relationship you have with your significant other can have an impact on the amount of time it takes for you to become engaged. It is a huge step for a man to get down on his knee and propose, but we are going to tell you from a statistic standpoint when a relationship usually takes the next step.

Remember ladies you know your man. You know his personality better than any blog writer or friend so make sure you have a conversation about marriage and the future before you assume an engagement is coming. According to eHarmoney in the past couples who fell fast and ran into an engagement before they were completely ready ended in divorce.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) says that there are annually 2.2 marriages held in the United States annually which would approximate to 5,918 marriages per day. This is becoming a trend for most Americans. We want to become engaged and married to feel the closest bond with our partner, and some of us can’t even wait over a year to make sure it is the right decision.

Luckily, since the 1980’s the divorce rate in the United States has gone down drastically. Divorce still happens, the statistics are 3.6 out of 1000 which makes it substantially less of a risk to become married in the first place. The reason the divorce rate has gone down is because the amount of time a couple waited to get engaged raised by almost 12 months. The average time a couple should wait to get engaged is 2.8 years. Just to reiterate it used to be 6-14 months!

No matter what your plan in life is, just make sure you know the person you are going to marry. Make sure it is the person you can picture spending the rest of your life with!
